Hi! My name is Beth, and I am the passionate knitter and dyer behind Sapphires-n-Purls. I discovered knitting around 2005. I purchased a starter kit at the store one night and learned to cast on and make the knit stitch in the car on the way home. At that time, I thought my yarn options were limited to the acrylic and scratchy wool at my local craft stores. I was over the moon to discover yarn was also made from alpaca, silk, cashmere and more (soybean yarn, anyone?). I also discovered a website that gave instructions for dyeing wool with Kool-Aid. Naturally, I had to try this myself. What fun to create my own colors at home! Since Kool-Aid and food dyes offer limited colors, I moved on to commercial acid dyes, which opened up a whole new world of color possibilities.
In October 2013 I decided to start selling my own hand dyed yarns. I use only the finest quality dyes that are both wash fast and light fast. I purchase all of my yarn bases from reputable companies with ethically sourced fibers.
Each skein of yarn is lovingly hand dyed in my home; I love experimenting with different dye methods and do not keep color 'recipes'. As a result, most of the colors offered are not repeatable and once they are sold out, cannot be dyed again. This allows me to keep the shop filled with new and fresh colors, and the projects you create with my yarn will be unique.
I hope you love working with my yarn as much as I love creating it for you!
